Steps to Custom-Paint Your Motorhome
There are several ways to customize the look and feel of your gorgeous motorhome – a paint job is just one of them! A well-planned and coordinated paint job can enhance more than the aesthetics. It can personalize your space just the way you like, treat seepage and leaky points, and increase the resale value if you are planning an upgrade. If you are looking at personalizing your motorhome, here are the steps to get started.

- Painter’s tape
- All-purpose masking paper
- Hand-masker dispenser and surface cleaner

- Paint, paint brushes, and rollers
- Paint sprayer
- Disposable coveralls
Steps to Custom Painting
1. Begin by doing a quick sanding on the wall, ceiling, and cabinet surfaces. Notice small holes from screws, especially in the places from where you may have removed cabinets, walls, or window valances. Use a wood filler to fill these holes and when it dries, sand it down to give the surface a smooth finish.
2. Provide a TSP wash to your motorhome’s interiors so that the primer will adhere to the wallpaper coating. Look up in the owner’s manual for recommendations on the TSP you can use to remove all the dirt and grime.
3. Once this is done, use the hand-masker dispenser to cover up all areas that you intend not to paint on. This includes the walls that you may want to exclude, your floors, and even cabinets. If you want to replace the flooring, you can let it be.
4. Take out the primer now and start applying it on the motorhome’s interior surfaces. Use a good-quality product for a thorough and professional finish. Typically, latex-based primers work better on camper walls as compared to oil-based primers, which are ideal for the concrete walls of homes.
5. Once the primer is dry, now is the time to paint. Choose a paint type as per the guidance of the camper’s OEM and narrow down your list of favorite colors. You can do a spot test with a few of your preferred colors and see the effects. Use the different application modes to see what would best suit your style: brushes, a sprayer, or a roller. Add coats for an even finish.
6. If you are a pro at it, you can do a good job with brushes and rollers. Wait for a coat to dry properly before you apply the second one.
For painting the ceilings and cabinets, you can make use of the sprayer. This will speed up the work and give a professional finish to the task. Use the respirator to stay safe, though.
